Education:

Be a high school graduate or have a passing grade on an official high school equivalency exam

Experience Required:

Be a graduate of an accredited vocational school and have a minimum of one-year field experience

Basic Qualifications

  • Active Maryland State HVAC Apprenticeship License

(must have maintained the license for one year or more)

  • Valid (state of residence) Driver’s License and ability to meet Company driving
  • CFC Certification Type I and II

Qualified candidates must also be able to work safely and professionally with tools, instruments and equipment related to HVAC service; have basic knowledge of refrigeration, electrical and heating theory; communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing; possess basic math, measurement, and computer skills; and display a positive attitude, initiative, and customer focus. Hands-on experience with troubleshooting heat pumps and gas furnaces is a plus.  Qualified candidates must be willing to work overtime and weekends as needed.

Job Description:

BGE HOME, the premier Home Comfort and Service Company servicing the Maryland area is seeking an HVAC Apprentice for Commercial Service.

Candidates will participate in a formal training program which prepares them to become licensed journeymen by providing them with on-the-job training, practical experience and related classroom instruction.  Apprentices will participate in various rotational assignments throughout the term of their apprenticeship. Under general supervision, Apprentices will perform a variety of functions including, but not limited to, the following:

  • Participate in ongoing training
  • Follow appropriate safety procedures
  • Use computer to accurately document work orders, order parts and participate in online training
  • Maintain company vehicle and related stock
  • Assist with troubleshooting, repairing and preventative maintenance of HVAC equipment
  • Assist with sealed system repair as part of training and development
  • Perform a variety of other duties as directed.

HVAC Apprentice

F.H. Furr is starting an eight-week long, fully-paid Heating and Air Conditioning Apprentice program at the Furr Academy, which is based in our headquarters in Manassas, VA.  This program is open to a maximum of six individuals.

This program is designed to create an entry-level HVAC technician after the completion of training.

While in training - a combination of classroom training as well as on-the-job (ride-along) training, apprentices will be paid $600 per week. The first full year of work after training should see an achievable compensation range from $50,000 to $70,000.

We are looking to mold the next generation of F.H. Furr HVAC Technicians, so please only apply if you are looking for a long-term career here!

Job Description

This technician performs field activities associated supporting the installation, maintaining and servicing heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems for commercial customers.

Duties include:

  • Assist with on-site preventative maintenance, routine repair and calibration after installation.
  • Uses technical abilities to maintain systems.
  • Works in a team-based environment to share information and workload while ensuring customer satisfaction.
  • Must work in a safe manner on a daily basis and ensure that all safety measures are taken at all times.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • HVAC Trade school graduate strongly preferred achieving 3.5 GPA and excellent attendance
  • 1+ years in mechanical support role, some hands on HVAC experience preferred
  • EPA Certification- Type I & Type II or Universal Preferred
  • NATE certification a plus
  • Valid Driver's License and acceptable driving record
  • Ability to climb ladders
  • Moderate lifting (up to 90 pounds)
  • Complete pre-employment drug test and background check process
  • Technical aptitude to perform maintenance, service, and troubleshoot equipment
  • Excellent Customer Service Skills
  • Good Electrical and Mechanical Diagnostic Skills
  • Ability to complete repairs and required paperwork
  • Ability to work independently and self-schedule
  • Self-motivated to complete assigned tasks within time constraints
